I found this blog entry online, featuring me as one of Mizani's platform artist. The weekend of the American Beauty Show we showcase Mizani's True Textures line on varies natural textures. We enhanced curls with True Texture's Perfect Curl, stretch curls to their max with Moisture Stretch creating big bodacious hair. I loved it, had a blast!!

And that was it......
It's funny I have been busy all day, just wanting to sit with a warm cup of tea and write, write anything. So here I am at 2 in the morning with my cup of tea AND a croissant just writing. I am typically not a good writer in my opinion, actually no one really knows this but I had to take my writing entrance exam a whooping 5 times before I could see the day light of an English 101 class so bear with me please.
Today was one of my days off. I styled a wig for a burlesque show, that I am very proud of (it turned out to be a hit), left a song on my ex's voicemail from a private number and wore the same outfit with 3 different pairs of shoes through out the day. So for me that's a pretty cool day.
I saw something on the train especially cool, something I wanted to write about. It was so profound to me, hopefully it means something to you. If anybody knows anything about the New York city train system, you know you can see some of the craziest things and people New York has to offer. Riding in a crowded train I sat across from two drug addicts a man and a woman. They appeared to be a couple, nodding off while in the middle of a conversation. They were rough looking if you can imagine, definitely not approachable. The boyfriend was controlling and demanding. I figured that out by the way he spoke to her, his girlfriend. Out of no where this Chinese woman sitting beside them just starts massaging the girlfriend's hand, all while she nodded off looking up at her maybe once or twice. The train came to the couples stopped and they got off. That was it.

Coming Back
Well its been a few months so I have definitely been busy. Just to catch everyone up, here is a few things I have been up to. I did hair for a taping of "Made"on MTV. As soon as it airs, I will post it here! I traveled with Mizani to Arizona and got trained on the True Textures line for natural curls. Love, love, love the products. I just returned home from doing the ABS show, on platform with Darico Jackson, Evie Johnson, and Virgil McDaniel. I had the opportunity of being on stage for the first time and boy was it an experience. I have been doing shoots, working with different designers, lots of fun stuff. You can look forward to seeing some of the pictures on http://www.hairbymelinda.com/- its almost ready. I am ready to jump back on the band wagon and start typing again. Stay tuned for more post, they are coming soon.

Richesse Hair Color
This is no ammonia demi permanent color — which means it's not a rinse, but not permanent. Richesse can offer slight color changes to the hair for tone on tone, add a touch of gold for flat and dull hair, or even camouflage gray. It's like a conditioning treatment and color all in one (ING ions lock in moisture) that also gives tremedous shine. Now that the holidays are almost over and the stress is winding down, treat yourself. This treatment is less than $50 and lasts six to eight weeks.

Dop Dop had our Christmas party... We rolled out the carpet for our DopDop stars. Everyone looked wonderful. I will be posting pics as soon as I get them. I didn't get home until six in the morning. Dop Dop-ers sure know how to party, so thank you everyone for a great time. I talked about this over and over again—but it just wouldn't be right if I didn't mention that the finest door-guy ever worked our party. I am going to spread the news: He was an exotic dancer!!! He didn't take off his clothes, but he did make me think of what it's like for the women of these men? Ok, total change of subject..
On Christmas, I spent a few hours at Goddard River Community Center feeding people in need of food. What was so interesting was the amount of volunteers that came out. There were actually too many! The people who came enjoyed a dinner of turkey and gravy, stuffing, peas and carrots, and cranberry sauce, with a variety of cakes, cookies, danishes and loaves of bread. Apple cider, tea and coffee also made its way around to warm everyone up. Over 1,400 meals were served thanks to donations of food, money and time. A lot of people weren't homeless and, by looking at them, you couldn't tell they were in need of a decent meal. I will let everyone know when I am volunteering next, because that's the first thing everyone wants to know—how come you didn't invite me?! And if you know about any other charity events happening, please let me know. I would love to be there.

I will say this: CHEMICAL PROCESSES SHOULD BE DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL AND A PROFESSIONAL ONLY!!! Especially if you don't want to look like the models featured with the article (hints below). If the recession is slowing you down from your regular visit, please talk to your stylist to see what your options are. If not, you can cause more damage than you think.

A Blessing in Disguise of A Gorgeous Man
I didn't really take a break, I just had TECHNICAL difficulties (you know who you are if you're reading this), but I'm back on track and would like to share how my world shifted since I last wrote. It all came about on a crazy Monday night... a first date at a Burlesque show with a tall, fine, half-Korean half-black guy. But before I get into my story, I would like to say thank you to Jessica A. for coming aboard and helping with this project. The blog shoot will be happening in two days too, so I am really excited. I have some really amazing people pulling together to make this happen, so thanks in advance to Josh, Asif, Josie, Tammy and Sarah--you'll hear more about them in my future post.
Back to the story: I work with Honi Harlow, a burlesque performer who has amazing shows every first Monday of the month at Fontana's in NYC. While shopping at PathMark in Harlem, I bump into this gorgeous guy. I won't get into specifics of how he wooed me with his beauty, but we pretty much got past the part where there were no diapers in his cart--meaning he didn't have children, pay attention please. Blinded by his beauty, I invited him out to Harlow's show. He looked exactly how I remembered and a few of my coworkers confirmed he was gorgeous. So we chat, watching the show, everything is cool, and afterwards we agree to go to my favorite bar and have a few drinks. We sit down and start chatting, everything still cool, and he starts telling me about this Scotch he enjoys, so we decide to have two glass of Lagavulin neat. I don't know what happened, but for some strange reason I drank the entire glass in one shot-- thinking it was a shot. This guy looked at me with amazement and couldn't believe what I did and neither could I!! So feeling a little embarrassed, I jumped into a convo trying to take the attention off myself. We get on the topic of age--I'm 25, he's 39. Biggie, no biggie, whatever--well, he decides to make the comment that I'm "way too young" for him, which I personally thought was rude. Then he proceeds to tell me he isn't that available anyway, because he has a kid on the way, and shows me a picture of a sonograph on his iPhone!!

Well, thank my angels I had that "shot", because I could only smile, and mention that he was an asshole and I was ready to go. See, what you don't know is that before that date, some work projects didn't go as planned and came crashing down. This guy made everything a little worse--but then better after I had a conversation with someone who pointed out that, when you're open to receiving, you attact great things... but you will also attract some bad. You recognize them for what they are, hopefully learn a lesson, and continue on with your life. I learned something outside myself made me have that drink, and when you're open to receiving, you get lots of things. So don't let one bad apple stop you!

Avoiding bad hair days--my list of DON'TS!!
I thought I would share a few "don'ts" that I constantly tell my clients. I can't stress these enough, so listen up. Here is what not to do if you want healthy hair:
*Don't skip trims, especially for my long, highlighted blondes. Find a hair stylist you trust, someone who we listen your needs.
*Don't use box color or try to do your color at home. This will cost more to fix than a normal service would. Unless you want to go black! If money is an issue, speak with your stylist to see what your options are.
*Don't try to get with your ex's best friend. Thought I would slip that in there, but really, it's not a good idea. I've tried it.
*Don't get color or hightlights two levels lighter than your natural color if you can't afford touchups at least every 6-8 weeks.
*Don't allow a stylist to work on your hair without a consultation before getting shampooed.
*If you are concerned about money, don't be afraid or embarrassed to ask how much everything is going to cost before starting!

*Don't use irons or curlers every day. Believe me, it's not worth it long-term.
*The number one don't? Don't go to the salon, spend over $100 on color, then go home and use a $9 shampoo. Non-professional shampoos wash your color out! Listen to your hairstylist. Professional shampoo helps to prolong your color and ensures healthier hair.

Almost every Tuesday and Thursday, I have lunch at EastWest Living Bookstore on Fifth between 13th and 14th. Funny enough, I am sitting next to a group of college students who decided to meet here without buying anything. I shouldn't say anything--one of the girls did run out to get a burger and fries from Wendy's?!? Anyway, I am blogging here live to tell you about the best iced tea ever! So if you know about EastWest Living, you know they sell crystals, books, CD's, DVD's, yoga material and other fun spiritual stuff. The cafe is upstairs where they give readings of all sorts by appointment only!! If you're ever in the neighborhood, stop by and have a veggie burger and the crystal infused iced tea--it's organic black tea, lemonade, cane syrup and spring water, infused with rose quartz crystals. Rose quartz is all about cultivating a higher level of love within yourself and your relationships, and is said to attract the energy of love to you. So cool! What Do You Use On Your Hair????
I always get stopped and asked, "What do you use on your hair?" Have you ever been up late at night and seen the infomercial on Wen Hair Care Products? Well, that's one of the products I use. I swear by and love it--and heard about it from one of my clients. Wen is a shampoo and conditioner in one, which saves me lots of money. Yes, I work with a variety of hair care products and Wen just happens to be up there with my favorites. After I cleanse my hair, I use Ringlet by Redken. Then, to finish it off, I use an oil to add shine and reduce frizz. I'm compiling photos and videos to show you exactly how I achieve my look.
FYI: Order Wen on QVC, because Wen's site sometimes has difficulties.
